Özet

Sustainable development goals (SDGs) are pivotal in enhancing the current state of our world and ensuring a prosperous future for future generations. Universities, as institutions that mold societal frameworks and future trajectories, are uniquely positioned to significantly contribute to the realization of these goals. Bezmialem Vakif University (BVU) is committed to advancing all SDGs, with a particular emphasis on health and education sectors. A primary initiative in this direction is the cultivation of internal collaborative studies. To facilitate this, various academic and administrative units of BVU convene to assess the institution’s sustainability measures and to identify which of the 17 SDGs are most relevant to their operations. Following these deliberations, responsibilities are allocated among the units, and the implementation phase commences. Periodic reviews are conducted where all units reconvene to evaluate the impact of their initiatives on both the institution and the broader sustainability objectives. This study aims to determine the importance of sustainability activities carried out by universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as contributing to raising awareness on sustainability to encourage further studies in this field. Furthermore, another aim of this study is to elucidate BVU’s systematic approach towards sustainability and its alignment with the SDGs. In essence, this research seeks to provide an in-depth analysis of academic institutions’ strategies concerning sustainability goals, using BVU as a case study.
