Abstract

Fetal complete atrioventricular (AV) block may be isolated (with structurally normal heart) or complex (with congenital heart disease). Isolated complete AV block is seen in associati on with autoimmune antibodies (anti Ro,anti La) cross the placenta and damage the atrioventri cular node of the fetus in subclinical or clinical maternal lupus erythematosus . Fetus with isolated complete AV block has a significantly high prenatal and postnatal morbidity and mortality rate. We report here a case of ferns with isolated AV complete block diagnosed at 19 weeks of gestati on successfully followed and treated with maternal dexamethasone. Regular monitoring is impor tant in subclinical or clinical maternal lupus erythematosus and early started dexamethasone treatment posithely affects the prognosis of fetuses xith isolated AV block.
