The Effects on Adolescents’ Health Behaviors of Brief Interventions Based on Behavior-Image Model
Objective: To determine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Adolescent Life Style Profile R2 and determine the effects of brief interventions on adolescents’ health behaviors using a Behavior-Image Model. Method: This study was carried out as a pre-test post-test control group quasi-experimental study, and implemented on 10th and 11th grade students in public high school in İstanbul in 2011. This research was completed with 103 students in experimental group and 112 students in control group. 25 min brief interventions based on behaviorimage model have been implemented with students in experimental group. Student Questionnaire, Family Questionnaire, Adolescent Lifestyle Profile (ALP R2), Exercise: Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, Children’s Dietary SelfEfficacy Scale and Center for Diseases Control Health Related Quality of Life-4 are used for data collection. Results: Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient for ALP R2 was ∝=0.88 for the whole scale and it ranged from ∝:0.55 to 0.76 for seven sub-scales. Brief interventions increased health responsibility, nutrition, physical activity and ALP R2 total score, exercise self-efficacy and dietary self-efficacy scores, severe and moderate intensity physical activity, daily vegetable and fruit consumption, duration of sleep of experimental group students. These brief interventions reduced the number of days that they are in unhealthy mental condition and the number of days that they are unable to do school activities. Conclusion: This research shows that Turkish version of ALP R2 is a reliable and valid scale and brief interventions based on Behavior-Image Model increased adolescents’ health behaviors.
