In dental education, traditional evaluation is made through the visual examination and comparison of the students? preparations and restorations by experienced instructors. Despite the instructor's skills and experience, these kind of evaluations may be inconsistent or could cause problems in obtaining accurate results. Students may perceive this inconsistency as a form of subjective, arbitrary, and unjust evaluation, which results in students focusing more on the grades rather than developing the necessary skills. The main purpose of these evaluation methods in dental education is to determine students' mistakes and inadequecies, moreover, the accurate evaluation of the work of students and explaining these evaluations are the most critical and paradoxically weakest points in dental education. Today, with the Computer Aided Impression, Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacture (CAI/CAD/CAM) systems which become widespread day by day, and with the prepCheck (Sirona, Germany) and Dental Teacher (KaVo, Germany) softwares, the preparations of the students can be evaluated. Such softwares have been generated in order to analyze and evaluate the students' preparations and restorations objectively. In this study which have emerged in parallel with the devolopment of technology, are discussed alongside the traditional methods and the advantages, disadvantages and their usage are presented to the reader.
