This course aims to provide a thorough understanding of the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. To this end, several classes of bioactive and biorelevant compounds (hormones, neurotransmitters, autocoids, vitamins,carbohydrates, lipids, etc.) will be discussed as well as possible target molecules for bioactive compounds (receptors, enzymes, etc.). In addition, drugs that effect several important systems (such as adrenergic, cholinergic and autocoids) will be discussed. Finally, the drug discovery and development process will be discussed.
